Permanent Fitting Stations

The Automotive Safety Program has established a network of Permanent Fitting Stations. Permanent Fitting Stations are places where parents/care-givers can make an appointment to have their child safety seat inspected by a trained child passenger safety technician. The most current information is given to the participant and instruction on how to properly install the child safety seat for their child(ren). Permanent Fitting Stations are located in approximately 40 locations across Indiana. Please click here to find a location near you!

Law Enforcement Voucher Program

The Automotive Safety Program focuses on decreasing injury and death to children in Indiana who are involved in motor vehicles crashes. One way we can make this happen is by increasing child safety seat use and educating caregivers on proper use and installation of safety seats. The Automotive Safety Program has developed a statewide project in conjunction with law enforcement officers and various organizations throughout Indiana to distribute child safety seats and provide proper education from a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. Law enforcement officers can issue vouchers to families who are deemed in need of a child safety seat during a routine traffic stop. The voucher can then be redeemed at a distribution / training site listed on the voucher. If you would like more information about this program please call the Automotive Safety Program at 1-800-KID-N-CAR.

Boost America! - www.boostamerica.org

As part of a national initiative by Ford Motor Company, the International Center for Injury Prevention (ICIP) and United Way, Indiana received 7,500 booster seats to distribute to low-income families statewide. On October 6, 2001 the Automotive Safety Program (ASP) and United Way coordinated a large giveaway event to distribute some of these booster seats in Central Indiana. The ASP also received funding through ICIP to train 13 Child Passenger Safety Technicians in 9 areas of the state. These newly trained technicians helped distribute the booster seats in their communities. The remaining booster seats are being distributed through Child Passenger Safety Technicians from various organizations throughout the state such as health departments, hospitals, law enforcement agencies, SAFE KIDS chapters and coalitions, permanent fitting stations, and B.A.B.E stores. Each organization and technician is working hard to ensure that 7,500 more children ride safely in booster seats in Indiana.
